Today, we’re excited to introduce the newest member of the crew onboard the Investible ship: Trixie Chang!

Based in our Singapore office, Trixie has fast-become a core member our Climate Tech investment team as an Investment Analyst, working alongside Ben, Khairu, Marie and the wider team. She is playing a crucial role in sourcing, analysing, and doing diligence on investments in the latest climate-tech start-ups emerging from the Asia-Pacific region.

As we further our climate tech investment strategy with the upcoming launch of our Global Climate Tech Fund, Trixie’s background in commercial R&D and her passion for sustainability make her a valuable asset to the Investible crew.

From developing insect meal prototypes to contemplating the ethical questions posed by sci-fi novels, learn more about Trixie in the short profile below.

Firstly, tell us about your journey to date

Given my biology background and passion for innovation, I gravitated towards commercial R&D in various biotech startups, focusing on sustainability and climate change initiatives. Over those initial years, I contributed to developing an antibacterial insect meal prototype, immersed myself in cellular agriculture projects, and led initiatives for stem cell therapy products for cosmeceutical applications. I was fortunate to later join a VC firm focused on deep tech solutions for food and agriculture, where I spent a year in China gaining exposure to diverse companies and building foundational skills as an analyst. Now, I am excited to further my growth and am glad to be part of the Investible team.

What excites you about joining Investible?

Joining Investible is incredibly exciting for me as it allows me to merge my professional work with my personal passion for sustainability and climate action. There are definitely interesting times ahead for Investible and I am eager to see the tangible value emerging from Investible's Asia-Australia bridge which is a testament to their dedication over the past two years. I also appreciate their emphasis on collaboration and community, and I look forward to learning from and contributing to a passionate team focused on early-stage investments. With the rapid growth of startups in the Asia-Pacific region, I am excited to help accelerate climate change innovation and expand Investible's reach.

What do you love most about the startup ecosystem?

Working at startups has revealed what I truly enjoy: the challenge and dynamic environment that keeps my work stimulating and rewarding. Startups are often at the forefront of technological and business innovation, drawing individuals eager to pioneer cutting-edge projects and bring ideas to life. I find founders who persevere through the daunting journey of building a business from scratch incredibly commendable, and their unwavering grit is truly inspiring to me.

What's your personal philosophy?

“Finding balance in imbalance.”

It is less about striving for perfectionism but more about being aware of what is optimal and works best for yourself based on your individual needs, allowing you to effectively manage your time and energy.

What's something new you've learned recently?

I came across The Three-Body Problem, a sci-fi novel with recent TV adaptations that delves into themes of human and extraterrestrial interaction, ethical dilemmas in scientific advancement, and the complexities of survival. The narrative's imminent alien threat draws parallels to the looming dangers of climate change in today’s context. An interesting read by the Groundwire newsletter also explores this very same climate allegory, hinting that our ability to move forward with new solutions is governed by a complex interplay of our own beliefs of truth, the uncertainty of the future, and practical constraints. Viewing climate change through this lens could perhaps enable us to better direct our future efforts.

Something about you that might surprise people?

As someone who grew up in the tropics, I often get asked if I’ve ever seen snow and if I can handle the cold. I love seeing the look on people’s faces when I show them a selfie of me with frozen hair and icy lashes after spending the whole day in -35°C weather. They’re always so surprised!
