It rings as true for our firm as it does for the startups we back: capable, ambitious people are what makes any business move forward.
Recently, Investible’s Chief Investment Officer Charlie Ill appeared on Startup Daily to share some news about our, our approach to early-stage investing, and Investible’s plans for continued global growth across the Asia Pacific region and beyond. (Interview begins at 02:27).
The promotions of Jayden Basha to Principal and Ben Lindsay to Investment Manager are more than just a recognition of their hard work. These two exceptional individuals embody Investible’s values, putting founders first, going above and beyond, and being value-adding to the entire startup ecosystem.
Jayden’s qualifications include being a legal practitioner and chartered accountant, and his wealth of experiences spans multiple industries.
As a member of EY’s market-leading Strategy & Transactions team, Jayden spent four years working across financial, legal and tax issues with a focus on private equity before co-founding his own tech startup..
While his venture — which helped ease customer verification and compliance for SMBs — never found lasting traction, Jayden realised the power new technologies have to transform the world for the better and subsequently combined his financial expertise with his passion for startups, joining the Investible team.
The promotion to Investment Principal is Jayden’s second promotion within Investible, having moved from Analyst to Manager in April 2022.
As a Principal, Jayden is active across the entire investment process, from meeting founders, identifying opportunities, helping them through our diligence and into the investment committee. For companies we eventually back, Jayden plays a pivotal role in supporting them structure for their next raise, including connecting them with our network of later-stage investors around the world.
Jayden has earned the trust, respect and gratitude of our founders.
"Jayden is one of those young brilliant minds who comes across very friendly but knows exactly what to ask and how to explore the information he needs to make his thesis. I've been working with him since Investible became Shipeezi's investor and every single time our interactions are filled with a refreshing story or an important alignment in regards to our position as a portfolio company. I look forward to continuing to work with Jayden throughout all of Shipeezi's investment journey." - Carlos Ferri, CEO and Founder of Shipeezi.
"Jayden is a consummate professional! He understands and empathises with the founder without compromising the values and requirements of Investible. During our time exploring investment, Jayden was meticulous, collaborative, curious and patient. We dealt, together, with some curly concepts and investor relations matters - and at every pass felt that Jayden was focussed on success - for all parties." - Michael O'Reilly, CEO and Founder of Next World.
Ben’s training as biomedical engineer directly kickstarted his career in Australia’s tech industry, participating in programs like the University of Sydney’s INCUBATE and Cicada Innovations’ Medical Device Commercialisation Program before he working as an Engineering Lead at a group of medical device companies.
Following these experiences, Ben and his co-founders saw a need for a device that could treat shin splints and founded Solushin. While working on Solushin, Ben’s connection to the broader startup ecosystem grew, eventually culminating him designing and implementing the program at INCUBATE, the accelerator program he had formerly participated in with the University of Sydney.
Ben’s next move was his first step into VC, joining Investible as an Investment Analyst for the Investible Climate Tech Fund in 2022.
This promotion sees him step into the role of Investment Manager, sourcing and analysing investment opportunities and interacting with founders from initial conversations to completion. Ben will conduct his own diligence on potential portfolio companies, leading investments from start to finish.
"Working with Ben, I immediately noticed his energy and enthusiasm for the impact our tech could have on the world. He genuinely gets excited by it. His technical background and real-world experience working in his own companies also sets him apart. Since he has seen some of the challenges that an early stage deep-tech company will likely encounter, he is able to call out those icebergs before we hit them." - Richard Parsons, CEO and Founder of Kite Magnetics.
"As a founder, working with VC’s can be daunting. It takes a while to understand the ethos of the firm, what the intentions of the relationship are, and to build trust with the key people in the team. With Ben, we got this straight away. He is very easy to get along with, gives us clear guidance to help navigate the process, and since he has ‘been there and done that’ his wise words have helped us immensely." - Tim Neale, CEO and Co-Founder of DataFarming
Career trajectory in VC has forever been non-linear. Historically, one of the biggest barriers to entry in working in venture capital has been the buy-in required to become a General Partner at a Fund. Due to our corporate structure, opportunities for growth from within at Investible are accessible and common. As Jayden and Ben, plus many others on our team — Franko in Marketing, Joanna in Investment, Richard in HR & Talent — there is room to define a career within our team.
“At Investible, we’re on a mission to ensure the best talent in the ecosystem is recognised for their connection with founders and ability to source and secure great deals. Our model allows great talent to operate in this capacity with a clear growth trajectory while being backed by a unified team of investment professionals,” said Investible Chief of Staff Amy Huang.
If this is the kind of opportunity you’re keen to pursue, we’d love to hear from you.
